Discussion:

Type. Ad fluvium Guainia vel Rio Negro supra ostium fluminis Casiquiari, Amazonas, Venezuela, May 1854, R. Spruce 3510 (K).

Although Schumann states the anthers to be exserted and places the species in his section of the key with stamens exserted, the type specimen shows only scarcely exserted stamens on some flowers and other stamens of other flowers merely reaching the summit of the orifice of the corolla.
