Monographs Details: Manettia mollis Moritz
Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1972. The botany of the Guayana Highland--part IX. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 1-832.
Scientific Name:Manettia mollis Moritz
Description:Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Coastal Cordillera of Venezuela in Distrito Federal, Estado Aragua, and Estado Miranda.

Type. Colonia Tovar, Venezuela, Moritz 839 (BM).

Standley cites (Field Mus. Nat. Hist. Bot. 7: 356. 1931) the type as “from Merida, Moritz without number and 839 in part, and Wernham [Jour Bot. 57(Suppl.): 35. 1918] cites for his localities “regions of Ericaceae, Buschel in herb. Kew, Merida, Moritz s n and Moritz ex parte 839, and Tovar, Fendler 587.” The Moritz 839 collection from the British Museum herbarium is labelled as “Colon. Tovar.” Since all the available collections examined of this species have been collected from the Coastal Cordillera (and not the Andes) from the vicinity of Colonia Tovar, Estado Aragua, eastward to Estado Miranda and Distrito Federal in the vicinity of Caracas, it is apparent that Wernham’s citation of “Tovar” is misleading and does not apply to the locality of Tovar in the Estado Merida of the Andes, as was indicated by Standley, but applies rather to Colonia Tovar of the Estado Aragua, where Moritz carried out most of his Venezuelan collecting.
