Type. Ad ripam amnis Galibiensium, French Guiana, Aublet.
Aublet described his Nacibea coccinea as having the calyx 8-lobed, the leaves glabrous, and the orifice of the corolla tube yellow-bearded, although his plate 37, fig. 1 does not show any yellow-haired orifice.
Except for the prevailing number of four calyx lobes, M. spraguei Wernh. cannot be separated from M. coccinea, and I am retaining it as a variety of M. coccinea. Some specimens referred to M. spraguei have 5-6 calyx lobes.
