Discussion
Schweiggera Martius, Nov. Gen. 3: 166, tab. 297 II. 1832, non Schweiggeria Sprengel, 1821.
Schweiggera Steudel, Nom. ed. 2. 535. 1841.
Quapoya sect. Renggeria Planchon Triana, Ann. Sci. Nat. IV. Bot. 14: 239. 1860.
Renggeria Meisner, Bentham & Hooker, Gen. Pl. 1: 171. 1862; Engler, FI. Bras. 12(1): 440. 1888; Vesque, Monog. Phanero. 8: 144. 1893.
The earliest generic name to be applied to this interesting small assemblage seems to be Schweiggera Martius (1832). Meisner (1837) substituted the currently used name Renggeria apparently because of the confusion of Schweiggera of Martius with the earlier Schweiggeria Sprengel (1821). The authors cited above evidently concurred. Application of Article 75 of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, 1956, would now support these judgments.
The extraordinarily clearly marked genus Renggeria is known to me only by the cited specimens. The immediate chief unresolved question within the genus remains the specific distinction of the two published names.
