No actual collections have been made above 550 m elevation which may constitute almost the altitudinal boundary of the species. Geonoma stricta was several times collected at the foot of mountains in the Guayana Highland. Maguire 24166 (NY) from the Upper Coppename River, SURINAME, was described as a new species G. maguirei Bailey but is identical with Poiteau’s original material.
