Description:Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Swampy places in savanna from Trinidad southeastwards to Guayana and in Venezuelan Amazonas; not found in the Gran Sabana of Venezuelan Bolivar. TRINIDAD. Aripo Savanna, Britton et al 297 (NY), Warming 743 (C, NY), Beard 144 (A, NY). VENEZUELA. Amazonas: Yapacana, Cano Laguna, NW base of Cerro Yapacana, Alto Río Orinoco, 125 m alt, Maguire & Wurdack 34537 (NY), Río Atabapo, Río Temi, 1 hour below Yavita, Maguire 29335 & 29343 (NY), Río Guainia, along Cano Pimichin below Pimichin, 125-135 m alt, Maguire & Wurdack 35631 (NY), NW base of Cerro Yapacana, Yapacana Savannas, Maguire et al 36560 (NY). Discussion:

Syntype. Santo Domingo [probably the error for Guiana], Mayerhoff in 1859 (B); British Guiana, Schomburgk 233 (K!, lectotype chosen here).

A new addition to the flora of Venezuela. The Venezuelan collections cited above mark a considerable range extension of this species into the upper Orinoco basin. R. longibracteata was previously known only from Trinidad and Guiana.
