    Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Swampy places in savanna from Trinidad southeastwards to Guayana and in Venezuelan Amazonas; not found in the Gran Sabana of Venezuelan Bolivar. TRINIDAD. Aripo Savanna, Britton et al 297 (NY), Warming 743 (C, NY), Beard 144 (A, NY). VENEZUELA. Amazonas: Yapacana, Cano Laguna, NW base of Cerro Yapacana, Alto Río Orinoco, 125 m alt, Maguire & Wurdack 34537 (NY), Río Atabapo, Río Temi, 1 hour below Yavita, Maguire 29335 & 29343 (NY), Río Guainia, along Cano Pimichin below Pimichin, 125-135 m alt, Maguire & Wurdack 35631 (NY), NW base of Cerro Yapacana, Yapacana Savannas, Maguire et al 36560 (NY). GUYANA. Kamakusa, upper Mazaruni River, De La Cruz 4070 (NY), Lama Savannah, Jenman 6139 (K, NY).

    Syntype. Santo Domingo [probably the error for Guiana], Mayerhoff in 1859 (B); British Guiana, Schomburgk 233 (K!, lectotype chosen here).

    A new addition to the flora of Venezuela. The Venezuelan collections cited above mark a considerable range extension of this species into the upper Orinoco basin. R. longibracteata was previously known only from Trinidad and Guiana.
