Rhynchospora sororopana Steyermark, Fieldiana Bot. 28(1): 46. 1951. Type. Steyermark 60831 (F) from Quebrada Sororopan, BolĂvar, Venezuela.

Type. Brazil, Glaziou 42891 (C).

New to the flora of northern South America, this species has hitherto been recorded only from the coastal mountain range in southeastern Brazil. The localities in both Brazil and Venezuela suggest that this species belongs to a group of relict species, which prefer a cool climate. In spite of the great geographic separation, the Venezuelan plants do not differ at all from Brazilian ones.
