Discussion:

Taeniopsis graminifolia (Kaulf.) J. Smith, Jour. Bot. Hook. 4(26): 67. July 1841.

Vittaria filifolia Fée, Mem. Fam. Foug. 3: 20. t. 3, f. 6. 1851-52 [1852], Lectotype. Guadeloupe, Herbier L’Herminier (P-Hb. Cosson not seen), chosen by Tryon (Rhodora 66: 114. 1964).

Vittaria deppeana K. Mull., Bot. Zeit. 12: 547. 1854. Type. Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, Schiede 790 (JE? not seen, fragment B). The atypical, honeycomb-like cells of the rhizome scales of the fragment match some of the scales of Pringle 5951 (US), which is also from Veracruz. Other scales of the latter specimen are typical of V. graminifolia. It seems likely that the atypical scales are juvenile.

?Vittaria setacea Christ, Bull. Herb. Boiss. II, 6: 47. 1906. Type. Navarro, Costa Rica, Werckle in 1905 (P not seen).

Vittaria lineata var graminifolia (Kaulf.) Rosenst., Hedwigia 46: 149. 1907.

Oetosis lineata var filifolia (Fée) Farw., Am. Midi. Nat. 12: 291. 1931.

Type. Brazil, comm. Otto (LE? not seen; isotype E seen by Tryon, Contr. Gray Herb. 194: 215.1964).
