Lectotype. A note by Maxon in the U. S. National Herbarium reports that the second syntype, Caracas, Venezuela, Bredemeyer (B-Hb. Willd. no. 20067-1 not seen Tryon photo US) “is a fine, nearly complete frond in excellent condition and should be regarded as the actual type.” I choose this specimen as lectotype. The first syntype, Porto Rico, Ventenat, (B-Hb. Willd. no. 20067-2 not seen Tryon photo US), according to Maxon “is small, old, broken, and incomplete, but originally fertile. Hieronymus refers it to A. petiolatum, but it is probably a form of obliquum as that species is commonly understood.” I find it impossible to place the photograph with certainty in either species.
