Discussion:

This essentially Amazonian species is known from Territorio Amazonas, Venezuela, to Estado Maranhao, Brazil, over which range it exhibits considerable variability, notably in leaf form and size. The cited specimens, the first to be reported from Amapa, are in all respects similar to material from adjacent Pard. Earlier records in Guiana have all been from the interior of British Guiana (Kanuku Mountains, Forest Dept. of British Guiana 5766; Karenambo, Rupununi R. basin, Smith 2220; St. Ignatius, Rupununi District, Harrison 1331).

B. cuspidata Benth., previously reported from the Tapanahoni River, Suriname (Versteeg 791), is very similar, differing only by the larger, more shallowly lobed leaves.
