Discussion:

Although this species has been rather well collected in the interior of British Guiana, it is poorly represented from the rest of its extensive range. The cited collections document the expected westward extension of that range in Guiana from the Barima River of northwestern British Guiana (Jenman 7083), and constitute first reports in the respective territory and state. B. kunthiana is also known from as far west in Venezuela as Rio Chizca (Bernardi 905) and to the east from Suriname (Focke 333, type of B. rosea Miq. = B. kunthiana) and French Guiana (Poiteau s.n., type of B. kunthiana).
