Description:Distribution and Ecology - VENEZUELA. Delta Amacuro: Rio Cuyubini, Steyermark 87613; Bolivar, Altiplanicie de Nuria, 89199

Discussion:

Much collected in Colombia, this species, one of varied habit, had been known as far east as the Paria Peninsula (vicinity of Cristobal Colon, Broadway 305) and the base of sandstone mountains in Guayana (Cerro San Borja, Wurdack & Monachino 39822; Cerro Baraguan, 41198). The present collections, the first to clearly establish the occurrence of this species in Guiana, are somewhat more heavily pubescent on the branchlets but otherwise display no departure from other Venezuelan material. As Amshoff (1939)2 has indicated, the separation of this species from B. cumanensis H.B.K., based almost entirely on the form of the leaf apex, is of doubtful validity.
