Discussion:

The last-cited specimen is doubtfully placed here, although it matches sterile material from Suriname. Number 51567 bears flowers in the post-anthesis stage, showing an apparent degeneration of tissues, which at first glance would seem to exclude the collection from the genus. Number 57665 bears an inflorescence attacked by insect or fungus, forming gall-like structures which at first glance appear to be fruits; the structures, however, are not the fruits typical of the genus.
