Description:Distribution and Ecology - VENEZUELA. Amazonas: Cerro de la Neblina, Rio Yatua, along west escarpment west of Cumbre Camp, 1700-2000 m alt., occasional terrestrial, sepals brown-yellow with yellow cross-bar at the base, petals brown-yellow, the basal portion yellow blotched with brown-yellow, lip with lateral lobes and crest maroon in center and yellow on margins, central lobe maroon at base and yellow at apex, column maroon edged with yellow, January 6, 1954, B. Maguire, J. J. Wurdack & G. S. Bunting 37071; same locality, in west escarpment savanna 2 km north of Cumbre Camp, 1800 m alt., terrestrial, January 12, 1954, Maguire, Wurdack & Bunting 37233; same locality. Upper Caiion Grande basin above Salto Grande, 2000 m alt., terrestrial, sepals pale maroon, petals red-brown and yellow with red-brown blotches at base, lip yellow with red-brown blotches at the base and a central red-brown cross-bar, December 13, 1957, B. & C. Wurdack 42365; same locality, east head of Canon Grande, 1900-2000 m alt., terrestrial, flower bronze spotted with yellow at base and lip with the apical part yellow, December 17, 1957, B. & C. K. Maguire & J. J. Wurdack 42429. PANAMA (type of O. chiriquense), COLOMBIA (type of O. coronarium), and ECUADOR (type of O. brevifolium) to PERU (type of O. brachypterum).
