Along the Essequibo River, on tree U'unks, Schomburgk s.n.; Membaru Creek, upper Mazaruni River, on tree overhanging river, flower with red spots, brownish without. yellow within. Vaupes, Rio Kananari, Cachivera Palito, about 250 m alt., epiphyte, flowers yellow, highh scented, petals yellow with brownish spots, lip whitish yellow with brown stripes and canary-vellow brush at base, July 25, 1951, R. E. Schultes & I. Cabrera 13103; Rio Karurii (tributary of Rfo Vaupes), Mesa de Yambi, savanna Goo-rán-hoó-dá with quartzite base, about 290-307 m alt., lat. I°20'N., long. 71°20'W., epiphyte, flowers yellow, spotted with red-brown, April 15-16, 1953, Schultes & Cabrera 19166. VENEZUELA. Bolivar: Near Canaima, G. Stengheil s.n., fide Foldats; Rio Carrao, Gran Sabana, epiphyte on lower trunk and limbs in rather light, very shady forest, G. C. K. Dunsterville 255. Amazonas: Along Rio Atabapo between Manacal and Guarinumo, 125 m alt., occasional epiphyte, "Tepals pale yellow, dotted pale red-brown; lip cream, basally streaked and apically dotted pale red-brown, the callus yellow," June 12, 1959, J. J. Wurdack & L. S. Adderley 42995; along Rio Guainia just below Banderita, 110 m alt., frequent epiphyte, "Tepals cream, red-brown spotted; lip outside white, inside cream streaked brown-red, with orange callus," June 26, 1959, Wurdack & Adderley 43190. The type of Maxillaria Steelii was from BRITISH GUIANA.
