Description
Distribution and Ecology - SURINAM. Tafelberg, Arrowhead Basin, at base of south escarpment, 625 m alt., frequent epiphyte in high forest, August 26, 1944, B. Maguire 24524 (no flowers). VENEZUELA. Bolivar: Auydn-tepui, faldas meridionales: selva virgen hiimeda rica sobre aluviones rocosos areniscos debajo de "Danto" y arriba de Guayaraca en la escarpa inferior, 1000-1480 m alt., epiphyte on tree trunk, leaves deep green above, 2-2.5 cm wide, flowers pale greenish. May 18, 1964, J. A. Steyermark 94148; Chimantd Massif, northwestern part of Abdcapa-tepui, 1210-1600 ra alt., in wet mossy forest with sandstone boulders, between Camp 3 and main line of sandstone bluffs, epiphyte on tree trunk, leaves subcoriaceous, rich green above and paler beneath, April 17, 1953, Steyerinark 75070; same locality, vicinity of Camp 3, 1300 m alt., on forested slopes adjacent to quebrada, flowers pale green, April 20, 1953, Steyermark 75178. The West Indies (Martinique, type of Epidendrum ruscifolium), COLOMBIA, ECUADOR, PERU and BOLIVIA.
