    Distribution and Ecology - VENEZUELA. Bolivar: Ptari-tepui, 2100-2285 m alt., between "Cave Rock" and base of high sandstone bluffs, on densely forested, steep, south-facing slopes overlying sandstone, epiphyte on mossy branch, leaves coriaceous, dark green above and paler beneath, sepals dull green with dull lavender stripes, translucent, dorsal sepal erect, ventral [lateral] sepal pointing downward, petals dull lavender, spreading, lip dorsal, erect, purple, depressed along the middle, October 30, 1944, J. A. Steyermark 59541 (type); Sarven-tepui, 1900-2050 m alt., slopes and talus forest, along base of lower escarpment, epiphyte on branches, flowers greenish yellow, January 13, 1953, J. J. Wurdack 34126; Chimantd Massif, southwestern edge of Apdcara-tepui, 1800-2000 m alt., in moist forest along quebrada below waterfall, vicinity of Camp 4, epiphyte on tree trunk, leaves coriaceous, rich green above and pale beneath, flowers purplish, April 14, 1953, Steyermark 74974 (no lip present); same locality, 1600-1800 m alt., flowers dull madder-purple, April 15, 1953, Steyermark 75034; 105-118 km from El Dorado, near Sta.
