Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Cultivated by the Indians in the Guayana Highland area (Maguire). British Guiana: Kako River, upper Mazaruni River. Native of southcentral Brazil and Paraguay but widely cultivated in the tropics and subtropics throughout the world.
