Discussion:

Arbor 8-metralis, foliis maximis, ramulis racemisque et floribus fusco-velutinis dense pilis lucidis usque ad 1-1.5 m m longis obsitis; folia ehiptica, subcordata, subsesshia, 30(-40?) cm longa, 12-15 cm lata, ut videtur abrupte acuminata, basi rotundata, auricuhs late rotundatis, sinu 1 cm profundo disjunctis; petiolus crassus rimosus 5-8 m m longus; nervus medius supra convexus, basi 3-4 m m lata; venae laterales utroque latere circa 20, scalariformes, utrinque prominentes, supra convexa sed paullo depressa; nervus marginalis prominens, paullo arcuatus, a margine 2.5-5 m m remotus; folia supra glabra, lucida, reticulato-venulosa, subtus opaca, venulosa tomentosa vel demum glabrata, glandulis paucis convexis instructa; racemi validi 5-10 m m longi, 2-4-flori; pedicehi 2-3.5 cm longi, 1.5-2 m m crassi (pilis inclusis 4 m m crassi); alabastra 2-3.5 cm longa, pyriformia, ut videtur clausa, basi bracteolis involucriformibus connatis 2 cm longis arete suffulta et obtecta; bracteolae membranaceae, velutino-tomentosae, apicibus late obtusis; hypanthium late campanulatum, 5-8 m m longum, vix productum, disco in alabastro attamen cupuliforme; calyx discum multo superans, 1.5-2 cm longus, fere clausus, ut videtur pertusus, intus glaber, convexo-glandulosus; petala 6, carnosa, alba, exteriora maiora, concava, 12-15 m m longa lataque, marginibus 3-4 m m latis glabris, centro 5-6 m m lato velutina; stamina 250-300, alabastro erecta, antheris 2.5-3.5 m m longis; stylus expansus non visus, 13-14 m m longus vel longior; discus expansus 6-7 m m latus, concavus; fructus ignotus; ovarium biloculare, ovulis quoque loculo 20-25.

This is quite unlike any other known myrtaceous plant in our area in the combination of very large broad and cordate leaves, and large and densely velutinous pedicellate flowers subtended by relatively enormous involucre-like bracteoles. It shows a relationship to Calycorectes grandifolius and C. batavorum in the 6-merous corolla.
