Discussion:

Calycorectes macrocalyx Rusby, Mem. N. Y. Bot. Gard. 7: 313. 1927.

Eugenia wentii Amsh., Rec. Trav. Bot. Neer]. 39: 158. 1942.

Phyllocalyx wentii Amsh., Rec. Trav. Bot. Neerl. 39: 159, nom. alt. 1942

The plant of Suriname described as Eugenia wentii is surely conspecific with E. macrocalyx of Amazonian Peru and Bolivia. I cannot find even the minutest differ ence between them except that in the Suriname plant the young herbage and the inflorescence are shghtly more densely pubscent. Amshoff states that in Eugenia wentii the fruit is depressed-globose and about 3.5 cm in diameter (Fl. Suriname 3(2): 116. 1951) but I cannot confirm this. In Rodrigues 231, which I suppose belongs to the same species, the fruit has apparently been ellipsoid, 3-3.5 cm long; in the dry state it is about 2-2.5 cm wide.
