Monographs Details: Eugenia lambertiana DC. var. lambertiana
Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1969. The botany of the Guayana Highland-part VIII. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 18: 1-290.
Family:Myrtaceae
Description:Species Description - Branchlets and pedicels glabrous, the latter exceptionahy sparingly hispidulous; leaves mostly 8-15 cm long, 2.5-3.5 times as long as wide, acuminate at apex but often gradually so or the blade long-acute; pedicels (2-)4-9 m m long, 0.5 m m thick (up to 1 m m thick in fruit); disk 2-2.2 m m wide, up to more than 2.5 m m in fruit; calyx-lobes up to about 2.5 mm long and wide; stamens 75-80; fruit 1-1.5 cm in diam. For a more detailed description of "Eugenia schomburgkii" see Field Mus. Publ. Bot. 13(4) [Fl. Peru]: 733. 1958; for description and citation of Suriname specimens see Amshoff (Fl. Suriname 3(2): 143. 1951). Amshoff also referred E. oligophylla to the synonymy of E. schomburgkii, but this is uncertain. Specimens at Paris collected by Richard, and named E. oligophylla are in poor condition and not readily determinable; in Richard no. 23 (cf Field Mus. neg. 36992) the leaves seem unusually thin for E. lambertiana, and perhaps are those of a shade-grown plant.

Discussion:

Eugenia schomburgkii Benth.,'io\ir. Bot. Hook. 2: 321. 1840.

?Eugenia oligophylla Rich, ex Berg, Linnaea ^Q: 685. 1861.

In the fohowing list of specimens examined, those marked with an asterisk (*) have the pedicels minutely (and usually very sparsely) hispidulous as in E. lambertiana var hispidula, but otherwise seem to be typical of E. lambertiana var lambertiana.
