  • Discussion

This is a Myrcia of the M . fallax complex. In the type, Tate 834 (NY), which is from an elevation of about 1320 m on Mt. Duida, the leaves are reticulate-veined, nearly glabrous; the inflorescence and hypanthium are rusty-velutinous; the calyxlobes are elongate, nearly 2 m m long in fruit, pubescent both sides; the fruit is ellipsoid. I have never seen another specimen exactly like it, and because it seems distinctive chiefly in being strongly pubescent, I have not included it among the recognized species in this paper. A topotype, Steyermark 58264 {¥), may represent the same taxon.
