Discussion:

is a recognizable entity of the Guayana mountains, resembling Myrcia fallax but with relatively broader and often very prominently reticulate or even bullate leaves, and the pubescence of the new herbage and the inflorescence reddish rather than yellowish, dense and persistent, the hairs spreading rather than appressed, the calyx-lobes glabrous on the inner surface.

Probably referable to the same taxon are two collections in which the leaves tend to be rounded or obtusely pointed, not acuminate as in most plants of Myrcia sororopanensis, but nearly matched in Pinkus 97, from Mt. Roraima; the pubescence seems also a little more abundant and luxuriant than in typical M . sororopanensis: B R A Z I L - V E N E Z U E L A . Rio Branco-Bolivar: Serra do Sol, on slopes of summit ridge, elev 2100-2200 m, 28 Dec 1954 (fl), Maguire 40443 ( M I C H ) ; Serra Sabang, elev 1550 m, 16-18 Dec 1954 (bud), Maguire 40324 ( N Y )
