  • Discussion

In the protologue Berg cited "Rich. Schomburgk, coll. no. 1605; Rob. Schomb., coh. no. 979," giving the locahty as "ad ripas amnis Corentyn" and stating "v. in herb. Berol." It is probable that the two cited numbers represent the same gathering; for an explanation of the numbering system used by the Schomburgk brothers, see the introduction to this paper. It is assumed that the specimen or specimens at Berlin have been destroyed. A sheet of no. 979 at W, named by Berg, is designated as lectotype. It seems likely that this is actually one of the specimens cited bv Berg, as in most of the species he described from the collections of the Schomburgks, he cited Robert Schomburgk's numbers as from Vienna, and Richard's from Berlin. In this instance he may have failed to note the omission of a reference to Vienna.
