    Especially common in Amazonian America but reaching the West Indies (Martinique and Guadeloupe) and Bolivia. It is a member of the Plicatula group of Paspalum, species of which are characterized by cross-wrinkled sterile lemmas. From the closely related species, P. plicatulum Michx., it can be separated by the annual habit and fewer (3-6) and shorter (1-5 cm long) racemes.
