Neurolepis densiflora Swallen, Mem. N. Y. Bot. Gard. 9: 399. 1957 (holotype US; isotype NY).
Besides the type, this species is known from only two additional collections: Chimanta Massif in Venezuela (Steyermark 75806) and shrub paramos of the mountains west of Chima, Department of Santander, Colombia, at 8300 ft elevation {Fassett 25569). As in Neurolepis diversiglumis and N . glomerata, pulvini are well developed on the branches of the panicle.
