    Distribution and Ecology - A species well-defined by its conspicuously repent habit and broad, distinctly petiolate leaves; apparently restricted to the Pakaraima Plateau and the upper Demerara River, Guyana. Seldom collected.

    Type. Guyana. Swampy forest on left bank about 1-2 miles above the Kaieteur Falls, Potaro River, 6 Sep 1937, N. Sandwith 1386 (holotype K).

    Specimens examined. GUYANA. Potaro River: Waratuk Portage, corolla white with greenish tinge, in shade on sandy soil among boulders, 12 Sep 1937, Sandwith 1509 (K, NY). Upper Mazaruni River: Rhizomatous herb with fleshy leaves, flowers white in dense terminal spikes, occasional in Mora forest at 500 m, Kamarang Station, 13 Nov 1951, Maguire & Fanshawe 32592 (K, NY).
