The primary description of the species is drawn from the series of collections made on C e n o de la Neblina, and three of four cohections m a d e on C e n o Marahuaca. T h e following var. marahuacensis is based on the single collection of Steyermark et al. 124406, and represents a plant of large leaves and greatly conspicuous leaf base and ligulate auricles. Probably intermediates between the two elements exist.
