Although the Guayana Highland specimens of//, nigrescens grow on sandstone, the species seems to be mainly epiphytic in central and western South America. Specimens from the latter region are very close to the Uttle-known H . flinckii v. d. Bosch, which apparently is also largely epiphytic. These two species m a y prove to be conspecific.
