Stigmaphyllon rubrinervum is distinguished by the presence of prominent reddish nerves, on the under surface of the leaf and by its pubescent twigs. The samaras are sericeous, which character distinguishes this species from S. periplocifolium (Desf.) Juss. (= S. lingulatum Small) which it resembles in many other aspects. This species is restricted to the top of a limestone ridge in the CordiUera Septentrional.
