In forest above Kaieteur Falls, Potaro River, alt ca 365 m, Sand with 1412 (topotype), Cunuria forest, Membaru-Kurupung trail, Pakaraima Mts., alt 1000 m, Maguire & Fanshawe 32415; Micrandra woodland around Ando Savanna, Sukabi River, afluente Ireng River, Pakaraima Mts., alt 730 m, Maguire, C. K. Maguire & Wilson-Browne 46213; Sheenabowa, Potaro River, Jenman 1291 (type of Cephaelis jenmanii); Kurupung Alt., near Makreba Falls, upper Alazaruni region, 13 Sep 1938, A. Pinkus 14 (type of Psychotria mazaruniensis).

    The conspicuous bracteate heads of the inflorescence relate this species to other members of the genus Cephaelis having the same habit. Comparison of the type collection of Psychotria mazaruniensis Standley with Cephaelis jenmanii AVernh. shows that the two are conspecific. Standley remarked, following his description of Psychotria mazaruniensis, that “The plant might be referred equally well, perhaps, to the genus Cephaelis
