Type. On bords de l'Orinoque, Raudal d’Atures, [Amazonas], Venezuela, 24 June 1887, M. Gaillard 18.

The specimens of Williams 13023 and 15973 are topotypes, as also the specimens of Holt & Blake 785.

Specimens which are intermediate between Faramea orinocensis and F. steno-petala, and which appear to be probably putative hybrids are represented by Cuatrecasas 4396 from Rio Meta, Orocue, Colombia, and by Wurdack & Adderley 42717 from above mouth of Rio Atabapo, Amazonas, Venezuela. The specimen, Wurdack & Adderley 42717, so far as the branching of the inflorescence is concerned, matches the photo of the type of F. stenopetala. The elongated calyx-lobes, however, are unlike most of the other specimens of F. stenopetala, and are similar to those of F. orinocensis. The size of the calyx in the specimen, Wurdack & Adderley 42717, is like that of F. stenopetala, but the large, unequal teeth show affinity with F. orinocensis. The size of the corolla (27 mm in length) is nearer to that of F. orinocensis, while the leaves resemble the smaller ones of F. orinocensis and the larger ones of F. stenopetala. The specimen, Cuatrecasas 4396, has the small leaves, short calyx and hypan-thium with truncate, minutely denticulate border, few-flowered, and few-branched inflorescences of F. orinocencis, but has the larger corolla-tube (15-16 mm long) and lobes (17 mm) of F. stenopetala.
