  • Discussion

Type. Nicerie River near Fallawatra, Suriname, Tulleken 455.

At the time of the original description, no flowers were known. The collections made since then, and cited above, afford the following additional data:

Inflorescentia umbellatim simpliciterque 3-flora cyma disposita pedunculata vel epedunculata vel in cymam corymbosam dichotome ramosam congestam 8-14-floram desinente; corolla cylindrico-infundibuliformi 32-35 mm longa, tubo 20-23 mm longo basi 1-1.5 mm lato fauce 2-3 mm lato utrinque glabro, lobis lineari-lanceolatis vel anguste lanceolatis acutis 9.5-14 mm longis 1-2 mm latis utrinque glabris; antheris plerumque inclusis apicibus vix exsertis linearibus apice acutis late triangularibus basi rotundatis 5.5 mm longis, filamentis 1.5 mm longis infra faueem 4.5 mm insertis.

The Suriname and British Guiana specimens were misidentified by Standley as Faramea capillipes Mull.-Arg. Faramea quadricostata obviously differs from F. capillipes in the elongate calyx and hypanthium, much larger corollas, conspicuous tertiary venation of the lower leaf-surface, and conspicuously anastomosing lateral nerves on the lower side of the leaf.
