There is an isotype of the Purdie collection in the Torrey herbarium (NY). The plant is annotated by Hooker in 1844 as Coccocypselum repens. The sheet on which the specimen appears has the Purdie collection in the lower half, while in the upper half is a different plant labeled “Coccocypselum, Jamaica, Hooker, 1843” and labeled above this by Standley for the North American Flora as “Tontanea tenuis (Urban)”; this plant in the upper half has the larger, thinner leaves, more robust stem, and short few-flowered peduncles of C. herbaceum Browne, a species common in Jamaica
