Schumann erroneously keyed out this species under “ovarium hexamerum, stilus sexfidus” (Fl. Bras. 6(6): 284). The material of the species examined by me uniformly manifests 4 styles and a 4-celled ovary. There is considerable variation within this taxon in the amount of pubescence present on the outer surface of the calyx and hypanthium and on the peduncles, branches of the inflorescence, pedicels, and bracts. In some cases the inflorescence is very short, in other cases more prolonged.

In most collections of this taxon, the summit of the calyx is slightly to moderately undulate, but in Lanjouw & Lindeman 801 from Suriname the calyx is much more prominently lobed with deltoid-ovate to broadly ovate-triangular or triangular-lanceolate and acute lobes varying from 0.5-1.2 mm long by 0.5-1 nun broad. The lobes are similarly pubescent as in var parvifiora with the hypanthium and most of the calyx glabrous except sparsely puberulous near the apex and at the margin of the lobes.
