    Distribution and Ecology - Shallow still water from NE United States to Argentina and in tropical Africa. Common at low altitudes in Venezuela, British Guiana, Suriname and in Colombia and Peru it occurs from sea level to more than 3300 m alt. Only a few specimens have been seen from the Guayana Highland. VENEZUELA. Bolivar: Chimanta Massif, Central Section, Rio Tirica, alt 2120 m, Steyermark A Wurdack 786 (K, NY, VEN), Altiplanicie de Nuria, alt 400 m, Steyermark 88395, Cerro Baraguan and vicinity, alt 100 m, Wurdack & Monachino 41219 (K,NY).
