Description
Distribution and Ecology - Floating in still, shallow water in wet savannas at low altitudes, Trinidad, Venezuela, French and British Guianas and Brazil. VENEZUELA. Bolivar: savanna and morichal 0.5 km NE and E of Uriman, alt 393 m (NY, VEN). BRITISH GUIANA. Upper Mazaruni River Basin, Ayanganna Plateau, Haieka Savanna, 740 m, Tillett, Tillett & Boyan 45207 (K, NY); Rupununi River, Sand Creek, Wilson-Browne 53 (K).

Sylven distinguished U. cucullata from U. mahneana by little more than a difference in corolla size. Material now available shows that there is a large variation in this character within populations and no discontinuity can be observed between the larger and smaller flowered populations. U. ayacuchae represents the smallest extreme.
