Distribution and Ecology - Lakes and rivers, mostly at low altitudes but up to 1065 m, Brazil, British Guiana, Suriname, Venezuela and Trinidad. BRAZIL. Amapa: Lago Cujubim, Pires & Cavalcante 52472 (K, NY); Mato Grosso: near source of Rio Paraguai, alt 600 m, Dorrien Smith 219 (K). BRITISH GUIANA. Rupununi River, 20 miles S of Lethem on Wichabi road, alt 90 m, Cook 190 (K, NY).

U myriocista is extremely variable in over-all size with a corresponding variation in the size of the corolla. It is very closely related to the North American U. purpurea Walt, with a short, obtuse rather than a long, acute spur. Specimens from Central America and the West Indies appear to be more or less intermediate.
