Description:Distribution and Ecology - High altitude shrub, Alt. Roraima and vicinity, also in the Hylaea and near Iquitos, Peru. VENEZUELA. Bolivar: along Karuai river, at base of Sororopan-tepui, W of La Laja, alt 1220 m, 29 Nov 1944, Steyermark 60779 (female fr. NY).

Type. Mt. Roraima, Schomburgk 948 (photo of male in NY), Schomburgk 594, quoted by Pax & K. Hoffmann, Pflanzenreich 63: 261.1914, not seen.

A second species, A. megalophylla Mull.-Arg., based on Riedel 219 from Bahia described as having larger antheral glands, and according to Pax also having multiglandular upper surface of leaves and paniculate inflorescence, is probably conspecific with the type species.
