Siphonia pauciflora Benth., Jour. Bot. & Kew Misc. 6: 370. 1854.

Hevea membranuacea Mull.-Arg., Mart. Fl. Bras. 11(2): 300. 1874.

Hevea pauciflora var coriacea Ducke, Rev. Hevea. 25. 1939.

Type. Siphonia pauciflora Benth. “In rocky situations along the Rio Uaupes and apparently the species is found also in British Guiana... Robt. Schomburgk 817, Rich. Schomburgk 1381” (Bentham). These words would indicate that Bentham thought the type to be Spruce’s collection on Rio Uaupes. There are two isotype specimens in the NY type herbarium under Spruce 2691. This specimen however is not quoted by number by Bentham. Muller-Argoviensis used this specimen (Herb. Mart.) as the type for his Hevea membranacca.

All specimens from Rio Xie, Rio Negro, Cano de Mico and vicinity of Piedra Cocui were distributed as variety coriacea Ducke.
