Discussion
Drypetes cyathophorum Miill.-Arg. in DC., Prodr. 15(2): 454. 1866.
Type. Rio Negro, Brazil. R. Spruce 3781 ex parte, isotype (NY).Chonocentrum cyathophorum is known only from the type specimen, the female flowers and fruit are unknown. Chonocentrum is related to Drypetes, both of which are apetalous and dioecious. The disk is extrastaminal; the filaments are free as in all the known Guayana species of Drypetes. But contrary to Drypetes the rudiment of the ovary is conspicuous and umbellately dilated, 4-5 lobed. Without 9 flowers the systematic position of the genus will remain doubtful.
