Tobago, Auchenskeoch Beach, March 25, 1914, W E. Broadway 4789 [Holotype was in Berlin and is now probably destroyed. A duplicate of it in the U.S. herbarium has been designated as lectotype by AVebster (Jour. Arnold Arb. 38: 74. 1957.)]

P. elsiae and P. acidus, apart from the radically different constitution of the fruit, are quite similar and without fruits sometimes difficult to distinguish.
