  • Discussion

    17. Phryganocydia Martius ex Bureau, Bull. Soc. France 19: 18. 1872. Type. Phryganocydia corymbosa (Vent.) Bur. ex K. Schum. Phrygiobureaua O. Kuntze in Post & Kuntze, Lexic. 433. 1903. This genus is noteworthy especially for its spathaceous calyx. Its magenta flowers are of the ''Cydista-type'' and lack a disc. The branchlets are terete, the tendril simple, and interpetiolar glandular fields absent. The fruit is elongate linear to ellipsoid, with a characteristic almost crystalline surface texture. It ranges from Costa Rica through Brazil and Bolivia, a single species reaching Guayana.
