Jacaranda spectabilis Mart, ex D C , Prodr. 9: 229. 1845. Type. Brazil, Amazonas, Martius sn of 1819 (M). Jacaranda superba Pittier, Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. 6: 19. 1940. Type. Venezuela, Bolivar, L. Williams 11537 (F, US). Two forms of this species occur in lowland Guayana. The typical form, restricted to the Guianas and adjacent Brazil and Venezuela, has larger obtuse leaflets and a larger fruit than the widespread form known from the uplands which has more numerous acute to acuminate leaflets.
