Brazil, Amazonas, Spruce 2485 (BM, BR, G, K, NY). Restricted to Amazonas Territory Venezuela and adjacent Brazil, this species is allopatric with S. violacea. Maguire et al 42054 from Cerro de la Neblina, camp 3, 700 m alt, Amazonas, Venezuela, is the first upland collection.
