It is characterized by magenta to cream ''Anemopaegma-type'' flowers with a straight corolla tube and cupular truncate calyx, trifid tendrils, 6-angled branchlets, absence of interpetiolar glandular fields and oblong or elliptic woody-valved fruits. It ranges through most of tropical America including the West Indies.
