This genus is characterized by reflexed anther thecae and pollen in tetrads. Its magenta flowers, interpetiolar glandular fields and simple tendrils are similar to those of Arrabidaea. The fruits are winged or have central furrows bordered by raised lines. It ranges from Panama to Argentina, 2 species reaching Venezuela and one the Guayana area.
