Description:Distribution and Ecology - Thibaudia is a large genus with approximately 60 species centering in the Andes of Colombia and Peru. The geographical range of the genus includes Costa Rica south to Bolivia, and east to Surinam. Twelve species are here recognized as occurring in the Guayana Highland region, three of which are described as new.
Discussion:15. Thibaudia Ruiz & Pavon ex J. St. Hilaire, Expos. Fam. Nat. 362. 1805.
A. C. Smith (1932) felt that Thibaudia was the genus "that seems the mean of the tribe [Thibaudieae], and that . . . seems reasonable to consider close to the primitive stock" (p 323). Thibaudia also shows many similarities with Vaccinium especially through T. nutans and V. euryanthum (a matter mentioned in more detail in the discussion of T. nutans).
