    Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Chiefly confined to the Roraima chain from Mt. Roraima northwest to Ilu-tepui. VENEZUELA. Estado Bolivar, Roraima: Schomburgk (holotype K); Roraima Expedition, Autumn 1894, Quelch & McConnell 78 (NY); summit, 29 Nov 1927, Tate 363 (NY); in clumps among dense mats of low vegetation in moist places, 2600-2700 m alt, 27 Sep 1944, Steyermark 58810 (F, NY). Ilu-tepui: mat-forming, perianth white turning red, occasional, open low scrub bush. Mesa Ridge, 1800 m alt, 11 Mar 1952, Maguire 33379 (NY, VEN, US); forming cushions in open savanna, flowers white turning red, frequent, Mesa Grande, 1600 m alt, 12 Mar 1952, Maguire 33248 (NY, VEN, US).
