Discussion:There are some recent collections of this species, made both in Brazilian and Venzuelan Amazonian region. The genus stands near Oryctanthus, but differs in its spikes devoid of bracteoles and provided with bracts. Further, Furarium flowers are tetramerous and bear anthers with divergent locules.
